++ Comdex Reports
http://www.zdnet.com/special/filters/report/0,13324,6021630,00.html

This will be the first year in several that I am not attending the COMDEX show in Las Vegas. It is the ultimate computer trade show. This year there is expected to be 2,000 exhibitors & 150,000 visitors, which is off about 25%.

However you and I can still go by proxy. ZDNet editors will converge on Las Vegas to represent us.. They will be delivering it all through our ongoing special report--through words, live radio, Webcasts, and exclusive streaming video of all the Comdex keynotes, including Bill Gates' kickoff speech on Sunday night.

The official COMDEX site is at http://www.key3media.com/comdex/fall2001/

++ .biz domains are now live

After a series of delays, the new ".biz" domain suffix has launched, according to registry operator NeuLevel. The domain was activated Wednesday at midnight, effectively jump-starting 160,000 preregistered Web addresses in more than 150 countries. New registrations will also be accepted. The new domain is part of a list of other new Web suffixes that will be introduced, including ".info," ".name," ".pro," ".aero," ".museum" and ".coop."

++ Sales of WindowsXP

The sales of WindowsXP are may good or bad depending upon the article that you read. Citing the same information, publications are delivering conflicting reports about WinXP sales.

"XP Launch Falls Short Of Windows 98" reports CyberAtlas http://cyberatlas.internet.com/big_picture/applications/article/0,,1301_918881,00.html (this is a long URL and may wrap to the next line) ,while Computer Weekly (http://www.cw360.com/) says, "Windows XP sales high despite slow market." C/Net reports "Consumers aren't rushing to buy XP"

The first 3 days of sales of WindowsXP was more than ME, but fewer than 98 during their respective first 3 days of sales. The figures were reported as:

WindowsXP (Oct 25-27,2001) 300,000
WindowsME (Sept 2000) just slightly above 200,000
Windows98 400,000

++ Refresh your ATX motherboard knowledge

For those of you who are technical and like to work with motherboards, check out "Refresh your ATX motherboard knowledge" http://www.techrepublic.com/article.jhtml?id=r00320010910gli01.htm&fromtm=e101-5
(this is a long URL and may wrap to the next line)

"Motherboards are the PC's backbone, but how much do you really know about them? Sure, you probably know the difference between an ISA and PCI slot, but what about the different types of processor interfaces, chipsets, and memory configurations? In this first article of a three-part series, we will look at common ATX motherboard traits, processor interfaces, and ways to identify an ATX motherboard without opening a computer's case."
