++++ Tivo ToGo

I love my Tivo. If you are not familiar with the Tivo, it is the foremost brand of DVR (Digital Video Recorder). There are other DVR's and other choices, such as using your PC as a DVR, but Tivo continues to be the most talked about. Tivo has a dedicated following, but its financial future has been in question. They have been very innovative. Their newest update includes Tivo ToGo.

I have my Tivo Series2 unit connected to my computer network with a wireless connection. My television listings are updated through the Internet. I am able to log on to the Tivo website http://www.tivo.com and select any TV program with their search tools. I can even schedule recordings from any web browser and Tivo will record it on my home unit. I can tell a friend about a program search by e-mailing details.

The new Tivo ToGo was just added within the past few weeks. I installed The Tivo Desktop software on my PC and now I can copy and view TV shows to my PC. By using a special version of Sonic MyDVD software, I can record any TV program to a DVD. By the use of this software, a special security number and a password, it is legal.

There are many qualifiers such as what model of Tivo, what versions of Windows, network availability, etc. Be sure to check Tivo's website before making any purchases.

Google is beta testing a new map service which blows the others away. http://maps.google.com/ I have tried the service. The maps are more up to date than I have seen at MapQuest or MapPoint. It is fast, accurate, and there are many choices. Their driving directions are clear and printing the map and directions are much easier than the other services.
