Smile! You're on Googlecam.

Google is coming for you. In fact, Google'people are driving around with roof-mounted 360-degree digital cameras, and they want to take your picture.

Google, Inc. is enhancing its Google Maps service with a new Street View feature that allows you to view crisp, navigable photos of roads in nine major cities across the U.S., including Orlando, San Francisco, New York, San Diego and Denver. To see the full list, go to http://maps.google.com and click the Street View link on the upper-right corner.

Once you zoom in close enough, you can click the Street View link and look around the location, or click an arrow to see the next Street View photo. This is really cool! I have included a couple of snaps of the Orlando area.

Vonage Still Lives

I have been a Vonage VoIP user for almost 2 years and have been keeping my fingers crossed that it survives the patent infringement lawsuits by Verizon. Vonage said on Thursday that it has completed workarounds of the Verizon patents that are a key part of a $58 million infringement award against it. Read the complete article at http://www.internetnews.com/bus-news/article.php/3693556

Why do I like Vonage? It works! I haven't had to call their tech support in over a year. There is one feature that some of the other VoIP services don't have, that Vonage has. It deals with the many power outages that we have here in Florida. When the power is out, the phone doesn't work. However, if someone calls me during one of those outages, the call goes to voice mail, and I can still pick up my messages by cell phone or after the power returns.

Another feature that I really like is that any phone call that goes to voice mail is e-mailed to me and I see it as an attachment in an e-mail message. I can play the message using Microsoft Media Player by clicking on the attachment.

Do not do this at home! I was in South Florida last week and snapped this rain cloud from my car window as I was driving down I-75 near Naples at 70 miles per hour. I have a Casio Exlim 7.2 digital camera.

I am reactivating Hewie's Quick Thoughts. Thanks for joining. I find lots of tidbits, tips, info, and program notes, which I will share with you.
